Senior Associate — Workers' Compensation Defense
Lead Complex Defense at the Highest Level
This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior leadership role within one of California's most responsive workers' compensation defense practices. You will manage a sophisticated book of high-exposure claims across all 24 WCAB district offices, directly shaping defense strategy from intake through trial. Our California practice is expanding rapidly — this role offers a clear path to partnership for the right candidate.
You'll inherit a well-developed client roster, work alongside trial attorneys who appear statewide, and have direct access to firm leadership. We don't believe in arbitrary hierarchies — if you bring exceptional results, your trajectory reflects that.
- Independently manage a complex caseload of workers' compensation defense matters across California
- Develop and execute litigation strategy from investigation through trial and appeal
- Conduct depositions, hearings, and trials before the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB)
- Supervise junior associates and paralegals on assigned matters
- Interface directly with insurance carriers, TPAs, and self-insured employers
- Negotiate favorable settlements and manage exposure on high-value claims
- Contribute to firm business development and client relationship management
- J.D. from an accredited law school; strong academic record
- Active California Bar license in good standing
- 5–8 years of California workers' compensation defense experience
- Demonstrated trial experience before the WCAB
- Strong analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload with precision and efficiency
- Experience across multiple WCAB venues (LA Basin, Bay Area, Inland Empire, Central Valley)
- Existing carrier and TPA relationships in California
- Experience with employer self-insurance programs
